The possible existence of the Microsoft Surface Phone was revealed in a code of the Windows 10 SDK and it was reportedly a device possessing a foldable screen. Dell, on the other hand, might actually get the better of Microsoft when it comes to release date timelines because the company is also planning to release something along the lines of the same product and it could possibly be powered by Qualcomm’s upcoming Snapdragon 850.
Dell Working on New ARM-Based Device Running Windows 10 With the Codename Januss – Been Working on Project At Least Since the Summer of 2017
According to details via documents and courtesy of WinFuture, the Dell ‘Januss’ is an ARM device running Windows 10 and comes with a dual screen design. We have already reported about future notebooks and 2-in-1’s running a Snapdragon 845, resulting in up to 50 percent performance increase when compared against the Snapdragon 835 variant, but things are going to be a lot different with the arrival of the Dell ‘Januss’.
For starters, the Snapdragon 850 is reportedly going to be one of the first SoCs from Qualcomm to feature a 5G modem (you can learn all about 5G connectivity here). It could also be made on the advanced 7nm process, which TSMC claims will deliver at least 20 percent better performance and up to 40 percent improved energy efficiency.
The dual-screen device from Dell can easily be folded and the user will be able to access the internet anywhere they go. There is also going to be a single Type-C USB connector that will support power delivery and several cameras, according to the information reported by WinFuture. It is possible to allow the Type-C USB to support multiple display connectivity, so the Dell product can prove to improve the user’s efficiency when it is hooked up to a secondary monitor.
Dell’s expertise in making thin, compact but very powerful machines comes from its seasoning from manufacturing the XPS lineup. With the expertise at hand, the tech giant should be able to make something that will compete against the upcoming Surface Phone, and the addition of the Snapdragon 850 will result in greater performance, and improved battery life thanks to the efficiency metric.
