Microsoft is today rolling out new cumulative updates for Windows 10 Mobile operating system. The June 2018 patch for Windows 10 Mobile Fall Creators Update (1709) comes with performance improvements and general bug fixes. Today’s update for your Windows Phone will advance it to Build 15254.489.

Build 15254.489 will appear as “June 12, 2018—KB4316692 Update for Windows 10 Mobile” in Settings -> Update & Security -> Windows Update.

Microsoft has also published a changelog to detail the improvements and fixes included in June 2018 update for Windows 10 Mobile. The software giant is also including the security updates for Edge browser, Microsoft Scripting Engine, Microsoft Windows Search component, Windows Kernel, Device Guard, Windows storage and file systems, and the Common Log File System driver.

June 2018 update for Windows 10 Mobile includes quality and performance improvements. Microsoft has also addressed an issue where enterprise files could be saved as personal files even though the Windows Information Protection policy is enabled on the device.

While Microsoft is no longer interested in feature updates for Windows 10 Mobile, the company is still supposed to update the OS with fixes for security bugs. One of the latest sales share data offered by Kantar revealed Windows Phones are going extinct in some countries, fewer and fewer buyers are interested in such devices these days.

Sooner or later, Windows Phones will disappear from the market, but until late-2019, Microsoft will continue to support the existing phones with security patches and bug fixes. The platform is currently in maintenance mode and is only getting security. In 2020,  Windows phones would no longer receive any kind of update.

While Microsoft has given up on its mobile platform, the company believed to be working on a new foldable device codenamed Andromeda with phone capabilities. It’s a new type of mobile device that will run full Windows 10, and support multiple form factors.

If the rumours are believed to be true, Microsoft could take the wraps off the Andromeda mobile device later this year under the Surface brand. It’s worth noting that Microsoft hasn’t confirmed the existence of such a device, so everything could change overnight.
