HTC was the manufacturer behind the very first Nexus device, the Nexus One. Since then, HTC  delivered the Nexus 9 tablet. If a new report is correct, we could see two new HTC built Nexus devices launched sometime this year. According to a tipster who posted on Weibo, the troubled company will be producing a pair of Nexus handsets in 2016. While not much information about the new models has been revealed, we are told that one of the new phones will feature a 5-inch screen while the other one will come with a 5.5-inch display.

Perhaps it will take a pair of new Nexus handsets to help turn around HTC, which has been struggling. Last year’s HTC One M9 flagship faced strong competition from Samsung, LG and Apple. The company also pushed out the HTC One A9 mid-ranger and has introduced the HTC One X9. We also expect a new flagship for 2016, the HTC One M10.

Recently, HTC unveiled the Vive VR headset. CEO and co-founder Cher Wang said last week that the company is focusing on VR instead of smartphones, which is one reason why we recommend taking this story with a grain of salt.
